Raising Achievement...and Parental Involvement

16th October 2008, Jesmond Dene House | 9am - 4.15pm

"...parental involvement as 'at home parenting' had a significant impact on pupils' achievement net of all other variables such as social class or level of parental education...It's what parents do rather than who they are that counts".

Professor Charles Desforges, Engaging Parents Toolkit, Optimus Education, June 2008

4th annual Positive Partnerships with Parents Conference

Tue 30/09/2008, Central London (venue TBC) and Wed 08/10/2008, Birmingham

The learning triangle is carefully balanced with three equal components, teachers, pupils and parents. When these components work effectively together educational and behavioural standards are raised and outcomes are improved. However, ensuring that the parental side of the triangle is supporting the other two sides can be a challenging task.

Effective communication with parents can only be achieved if schools open their doors to parents and create a welcoming environment. This event will show you how to engage parents in conversation and increase parental participation.

Attend the 4th annual Positive Partnerships with Parents conference to learn how to engage with parents and ensure that all three sides of the learning triangle are equal and connected, even when parents in hard to reach communities are involved.

This conference will help you to:

  • Maximise the use of your home-school agreement to develop relationships with parents.
  • Develop an inclusive approach to parental engagement.
  • Raise pupil attendance by making parents central to the learning process.
  • Engage parents who have had a negative experience during their own school life.
  • Initiate conversations with parents to enhance pupil achievement.
